Stefan Auener focuses on the transition from inpatient care to homecare. The leading question is: How can moving inpatient care to patients’ homes support the sustainability of our healthcare system? Since inpatient care is associated with high (administrative) costs and other overhead costs, substitution of inpatient care can be accompanied by a decrease in costs.

With various research methods such as a literature study, quantitative data analyses and a qualitative action research, he estimates the potential of this transition to homecare in terms of reduced healthcare utilization or money saved.

In addition, he also investigates which care may be eligible for this transition and how this may be supported by a variety of stakeholders.
